We are using state of the art neurosurgical equipment to perform biopsies at initial diagnosis as well as at recurrence if indicated. We will use dedicated navigation systems to maximize success rates of brainstem biopsies. Many studies now have shown that brainstem biopsies are feasible and that toxicity is minimal.
Each patient will undergo a thorough evaluation by our paediatric neurosurgery team prior to biopsy.
Each tumour tissue that is being collected will undergo the most detailed molecular profiling that is available to guide therapies. This will include whole exome sequencing as well as RNA and methylation profiling and if sufficient material is available we will also perform whole genome sequencing and proteomic analysis. Data will be shared with each patient as well as the larger community if agreed upon by the patient and families.
